Life in the Trenches

Full of enthusiasm  setting out
The battle-worn head home

Today we spent the day in the trenches.  We endured the rain, several attacks, rain, injury, rationed food and drink, rain, and cramped space.  During our time experiencing the life of the ANZAC soldiers, we were visited by Whaea Carla (telling us about the Maori Battalion and singing NZ songs), our War Correspondent (Caron, from the newspaper), Colonel Eldridge, several Sergeant Teachers and Staff, and our Chaplain (Kath, our Bible in Schools leader).  After making our periscopes we were able to see the enemy coming without getting injured so often.  We had lots of fun throwing our water balloon grenades and popping our party poppers to make the gun noises.  Other classes joined in the experience by being the enemy. Our journals are full of our experiences, drawings, poems and ANZAC maths .  Just like the real soldiers we were wet and tired by the end of the day, but we had had a great day.

Hunkering down in the trench
The injured keep on soldiering
