This week have have immersed ourselves in learning about WW1, which began 100 years ago.
UNIFORM DISPLAY
We visited Room 9, where there was a display of New Zealand, Australian and American uniforms. The uniforms were from WW2 and modern times. We were allowed to feel what the cloth felt like. Some were very scratchy. We put on the helmet, that was VERY heavy.
MEDALS
Trooper Herbert Johnston was a soldier in WW1. We looked at his medals, then went back to our classroom to make our own medals.
CLASS WREATH
We made poppies to place on our class wreath. The wreath will be used at our ANZAC service on Friday.
TRENCH
We have a trench in our classroom. We have been learning how the soldiers dug them, hid in them, fought in them and died in them. If it rained they filled with water.
POPPIES
We made poppies out of shells. We will take them to the Cenotaph on Friday to place near the crosses.
