Our ANZAC DAY

Our ANZAC Day began with a shared breakfast.  All the classes ate together, just like the soldiers did. Then we lined up and walked to the Memorial Centre.  We listened to some readings, and Mrs Slattery told us about her Dad, who was in J Force.  We put poppies on the cenotaph and by the crosses.

Then we walked to the Domain where we listened to stories about the first four Matamata men who lost their lives in World War 1.  There is a memorial on an oak tree that was planted 98 years ago.  We put a ribbon around the tree and placed 4 poppies under it to say that we remember them.

We walked back to school where we all had Anzac biscuits for morning tea.

In the afternoon we held our ANZAC service.  We lowered the flag, listened to The Last Post and readings, sang the 'Anzac Anthem' and then, while we we singing 'Let there be peace on earth' we released pigeons.

We had a special day.
